I was having dinner with my buddy Vance Powell and a few other guys during NAMM and a discussion started about the place of computer monitors in control/mix rooms.
Vance is clear that he always has his monitor off to the side, you'll also see this in mix rooms of other producers/engineers like Michael Brauer, amongst others.
There may be various reasons why the computer screen is not sitting centre place above the console/control surface, but for Vance he does not want to be staring at a monitor when mixing, he wants to mix with his ears not his eyes.
So we thought this would be a discussion starter; computer monitor... centre place or off to the side? Does mixing in the box with a mouse make the off-to-the-side choice almost impossible?
