With the support of iLok, more tips & tricks from the community. Here is one from Hans Vermeersch….
This is a tip I picked up from someone working in post on a lot of Disney movies.
When you’re recording a voice over artist and he or she is suffering from severe mouth artifacts (clicks, lip smacking etc.), it helps to have them eat a green (sour) apple like a Granny Smith. The acidity of the apple seems to have some kind of influence on one’s saliva and reduces the artifacts.
Also steer them away from coffee or soda drinks. It can be a hell of a job repairing hours of dialogue with these kinds of artifacts, so it’s better to try to get a clean recording in the first place.
Most of the voice over artists I record suffer from stomach rumbling when noon approaches, therefore it’s always handy to have some biscuits or cookies ready (and actually, it is not your stomach but your bowels which cause this sound) ;-)
Mike - These can be challenges with singers too and great advice to get it right before it hits the microphone.
