Jigsaw24 Autumn 'Mix With The Pros' Event Report

Thursday 15th of October saw Jigsaw24 host the second of their very popular 'Mix With The Pros' events.

Round two was much more of a Post Production focused event. As before, there were two sessions running during the day. The first at 3pm and the later session at 7 to allow those working that day to attend.

Avid S3 & iPad Control App

The event started with Dave Tyler from Avid giving a 15 minute presentation on what Avid are doing right now. He covered the new additions and goodies added to the HD and vanilla versions of Pro Tools and some of the features of the new S3 console. In particular how to use the S3 and the new iPad app together to create an S6 kind of workflow and functionally.

Halo Post Case Study

We then heard from John Rogerson of Halo Post.  He talked about his positive experiences with Avid and with Andy Brooks from Jigsaw24.  Halo have a number of HD and Non HD Pro Tools suites and also use the Avid ISIS system for their data storage and file sharing.

Composing For Films

Finally in the presentation section of the event we heard from Niv Adiri of Sound 24.  Niv started by playing a trail from the Steve Jobs film that he has recently finished, before talking about some of his workflow ideas and template sessions from other projects that he has been working on.

Music & Post Aren't That Dissimilar

As a music guy some of the terminology was a little lost on me. In my world Track Laying means something completely different but I managed to keep up.  It was also very interesting seeing how other types of Pro Tools users work. We often think of Post and Music being so totally different but in many way they are the same.

Beer & Pizza

At the end of the presentation part of the event there was an opportunity to mix and mingle with follow audio professionals over and beer and pizza before we headed up stairs to Jigsaw 24s Steam Punk demo room which has a 40 frame Avid S6 as it’s main control surface.

Demos In The Steampunk Room

First we had a demo of the new Trinnov D-Mon from Paul Mortimer of Emerging.  The processing which is done in real time by the Tinnov system is quite amazing. (Watch this space for a full demo and review of the D-Mon coming very soon on Pro Tools Expert) The room sounded good before the Trinnov was applied. But the depth and detail of the audio was so much greater with the room correction engaged.

The attendees then had another opportunity to hear from Niv Adiri. Niv took control of the S6 in the Steampunk room to show us around one of his film post sessions. He talked about the workflow at Sound 24 and how they are able to work quickly to produce temp mixes using some of their custom created PT template sessions.

Thanks Jigsaw24
