This week lets start with an announcement from Cedric from Red Libraries. Cedric got in touch to say that they have just released a huge collection of ambiences of Paris and they are offering a really big bundle of free sounds of unusual sounds of Paris for the 20 first buyers.

Everyday Life In Paris From Red Libraries

The library is called Everyday Life In Paris.  Peter Albrechtsen was working on the preparation of “The Model”, a feature film directed by Sundance-winner Mads Matthiesen. Peter reached out to Red Libraries asking for help.

I really wanted the sounds of the city to be a character in the film. The only way to achieve that was getting some local assistance and Cedric and Frédéric had amazing enthusiasm from the beginning. They started recording some wonderful sounds even before picture editing began so that we could use the ambiences from the very beginning of the post-production process. The movie was edited by a very experienced Danish editor, Pernille Bech Christensen, who’s really into sound and because of Fred and Cedric’s work she could use the proper city sounds immediately.

Cedric and Frédéric set about looking at the specific locations, asking if they were the most appropriate places to collect sound. You can read the full story on the Red Libraries site but it involved a 'sonic bike'. As Red Libraries say...

The architecture of Paris, it’s diversity, and its population’s density, offers an incredible sonic atmosphere and amazing sound effects. Every place is unique. The charm of the Quais de Seine, the quietness of its parks, the liveness of its courtyards, the frenzy ballet of its boulevards, and the warmness of its markets, are the colors and shades of the french capital.

We crossed the streets of our capital, on board on our sonic bike, equipped with MS and XY stereo couples, allowing us to stop and record, on the fly, even in the unaccessible places. The everyday Paris, far from touristic clichés,this is the main theme of this collection. This is the parisian’s audio frame, at work, living their leasures, and many more activities. Trolling the streets of Paris, inspired us to build a collection around the everyday life of the french capital, giving a way to deliver tools for most of situations we could encounter in an editing room.

Unknown Pass By From Red Libraries

Red Libraries have also released another library recently called Unknown Pass By. This one is about moving objects, real or unreal, with this obsession: stay believable!

They wanted to create unclassifiable objects, but with a natural aspect and texture. They can be easily added into a natural, sci-fi, historical or fantasy world. The sound library is organised into 2 different categories Raw & Designed Objects which they describe as..

The source objects are gears like, toaster, gloves, paper, pipe,small motor, voices, iron bowl, garden hose, plastic sheet, air pump, stick, trolley, ratchet. The elements are wind, water, underwater. The textures are plastic, metal, wood…

The designing keeps a natural aspect and not too much processed for giving you the possibility to integrate your sound easily into your scene. You could imagine a space ship, a drone, an arrow, a voice spirit, a creature, a UFO, an ammunition…

Collected Transients Releases Free Version Of MaK

MaK is a Kontakt instrument which replicates the sounds of a person using various computer keyboards, mice, or touchscreen devices. This allows you to perform the foley of using one of these devices via MIDI.

MaK was created to speed up the time consuming process of editing and/or recording mice and keyboards. After realizing how often this came up in both commercial and film work, the developer Stosh Tuszynski decided there had to be a better way. Several recording sessions and Kontakt script headaches later, MaK was born!

There are 15 devices available in MaK: 5 Keyboards, 5 Mice, 2 Touchscreens, and 3 digital keyboards. Each of these devices has been meticulously recorded at a number of different velocities for a very realistic playback performance.

The majority of the devices have 5 velocity layers; from soft to hard. Each of these velocity layers have 32 different samples: 16 for the press sound, and 16 for the release sounds of each device. That’s 160 samples per device! MaK will randomly trigger press and release samples for each layer based on the velocity you play the notes. Easy to use controls allow you to adjust additional layers of randomness in both velocity and pitch. All of this adds up to realistic devices, and convincing performance.
