Avid Pro Tools 12HD Licenses With 2015 Support Plans Not Transferable

Thanks to community member 'WaterStreet' brought our attention to a thread on the DUC where it would seem that Pro Tools 12HD licenses with a 2015 upgrade & support plan are not transferable at this time.

So we have done some digging and Avid revised their KnowledgeBase article entitled "How do I submit a Transfer of Ownership form for Avid Pro Tools Audio Products?" on December 10th 2015 and in that document is this statement...

Please note that Pro Tools software products that have been upgraded to the newer 2015 support plans and newer Pro Tools products which include 2015 support plans are not currently available for transfer.

Prior to this announcement HD owners couldn't transfer the iLok licenses themselves but the customer could use the Transfer of Ownership procedure to transfer the HD license to another account.

  • The seller filled out the Transfer of Ownership form with all required data.

  • The seller paid the transfer fee

  • Then the seller had to disable the license on the iLok

  • Once all that is completed Avid revoked the license and created a new one on the new customer's iLok account.

However it would appear based on the statement on the Avid KnowledgeBase document that this option is not currently possible with 2015 support plans, but what is not clear is what the situation is with 2016 support plans.

What Does This Mean?

What it means is that for the foreseeable future, owners of HD system with current support plans cannot sell their HD systems to someone else. They will continue to work, they will continue to support them, but for now you cannot sell your HD system to someone else.
