Back at Winter NAMM in late January Waves announced Tracks Live a free multi-track recorder for your computer. Waves released Tracks Live at the beginning of March and also announced that for a limited period if you bought the 'paid for' version you would also they would be bundling their plug-in hosting application MultiRack worth $500 free of charge. We also reviewed the first release of Tracks Live.

Now they have released an update with two new features that move it up a gear or two. These new features are the ability to save session templates and an LTC sync option.

Tracks Live - Save Session Templates

Waves describe a template as a complete Tracks Live session, without audio. Templates enable you to store and recall commonly used setups and to create new sessions from these.

The Open Template option will now take you to a browser with all available Tracks Live templates. Once a template opens, you can save it as a Tracks Live .session.

The Recent Template option displays the ten most recent templates. You can open a template and then save it as a session. Note that templates are created from existing sessions. You can choose Save as Template from the File menu in the active session. These Template files will carry the extension *.template, and can be placed in any folder. Be aware that there are no factory supplied templates.

Tracks Live - LTC Sync Option

In the Tracks Preferences there is now a Sync tab where yo can set the timecode format and port used for synchronizing with external devices.  Tracks Live can lock to longitudinal timecode (LTC) or to MIDI timecode (MTC LTC 1).

In the Sync tab in the preferences page you can select LTC from the drop-down menu and choose the port to which the LTC source is .connected. then set the session timecode frame rate to match that of the timecode source. Session timecode can be set in the Main window .or in the Sessions Settings tab.

Next open the Session Timecode Sync Selector/Display menu in the Top Bar and select LTC (the default is Internal). A notice will appear to indicate timecode status and playback will begin when valid timecode is received.  You can use the Sync Selector/Display menu to toggle the transport in and out of timecode chase mode

When using MIDI Timecode (MTC) to lock the recorder to a MIDI timecode source, you can select MTC from the Sync Selector/Display menu.
