The recent freebie Brainworx bx_opto Pedal Plugin is very cool, simple to use and free until July 22nd.

It looks like a stomp box and has lots of cool presets for use with guitar and bass, however after some experimentation it seems that this plug-in is far more than a one trick pony. Here are three cool uses for the Brainworx bx_opto Pedal Plugin.

Give Vocals Character

Yep the Brainworx bx_opto Pedal Plugin is a very nice plug-in when used on a vocal, I tried it on a gutsy female vocal using the lead guitar setting and it added a really nice punch to the sound of the vocal.

Parallel Drum Buss Glue

Sling the Brainworx bx_opto Pedal Plugin across a parallel drum buss and then push up the fader and hear it gluing the track together. 

Edge To Electric Piano

If you are looking for some real retro grunt on an otherwise middle of the road Rhodes or Wurly then try the Brainworx bx_opto Pedal Plugin as an insert then try one of the guitar presets - back off the gain to match the original level then A/B.

Summary

The Brainworx bx_opto Pedal Plugin may look like a little stomp box but try to on other sources and you'll find this one punches above its weight and belies its simple controls.
