David Bowie has died after a battle with cancer, he was 69.

His son confirmed the news with the following statement released to the press, it said;

"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer, while many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief."

Blackstar, his 25th album was released last Friday on his Birthday.

HIs son Duncan also confirmed the news on Twitter.

Bowie was regarded by many as iconic musical figure following his breakthrough in 1972 with The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars.

His other hits included Let's Dance, Space Oddity, Heroes, Under Pressure, Rebel, Rebel, Life on Mars.
