When recording voiceover sessions in Pro Tools it can be really frustrating that you cannot edit out the rubbish whilst continuing to record. In Podcast 202, our NAMM 2016 special, we read out a great tip from community member Nando Eweg where he shared his tip for helping to get round this. We liked it so much that I have made a video to show you how to use Nando's tip and added my own take on it too.

Nando uses a blank audio track ideally under the track you are recording your voiceover onto. When you identify a section of the voiceover that you know you don't want you make a selection on the blank audio track, not the record track.

Then use the Group Clips command - Command+Alt+G on a Mac or Control+Alt+G on a PC and that will create an audio clip of the 'fresh air' you selected on the blank track.

When you have finished the recording session, change the Grabber tool to the Object mode, select all the clips created on the blank audio track and then drag them up onto the Voiceover track. These clips will then go over the sections of the voiceover you don't want.

Change the Grabber Tool back its normal mode and then in Shuffle hit the Delete key and all the unwanted clips will go and all the wanted audio will be butted up together.

Now you can use the Tab key and skip from one edit to the next tidying the edits as necessary and its job done.
