Mix With The Pros 3D At Jigsaw24

Jigsaw24 in London's Soho Square was the location for their latest Mix With The Pros event on Thursday 17th November 2016. Jigsaw24 hold these events to showcase some of the latest and greatest technology and innovations in the world of pro audio and video. These quarterly events are also a great opportunity for networking not only with the brands that exhibit at the event but also with other industry professionals.

The event kicked off with a presentation by James Shannon of Dolby who talked about some of the main features and benefits of object oriented audio workflows for the Dolby Atmos environment. This covered looking at some of the main differences between object based and channel based audio practices.

Next up was a double act of Simon Sherbourne and Rich Nevens from Avid talking about the S6 control surface and the new MTRX interfaces which have been developed by Avid and NTP.  Rich talked about how the new S6 is designed to help deal with ever increasing track counts in music and movie post environments. One particular high point in this demo for me was where Rich explained that the S6 is not only a Pro Tools controller but it can be used along side any Eucon compatible application like Apple's Logic Pro and because the S6 can address multiple machines and DAWs at the same time you can have different faders or banks of faders assigned to the different DAWs  at the same time. So you can have a group of virtual instrument  channels from Logic running on the same surface as your dialog channels from Pro Tools.

The final presentation was given by Richard Addis of Halo Post about some of the ways the team at Halo are dealing with some of the complex audio issues in 3D and virtual reality productions.  All the attendees were issued with headphones for this part of the event and Richard was able to show off some of the technologies that Halo are using and developing for the different types of 3D and VR environments. The world of VR is one area where the sound and sound environments are more of a challenge than the visuals.

After the presentations there was then a chance to mingle, grab a beer or glass of wine and chat with some of the brand partners that Jigsaw24 had also invited to this Mix With The Pros event. These included Focusrite who were showing their Red4Pre and new range of 1U RedNet interfaces.  Nugen Audio who were displaying their range of loudness products and Sennheiser who had one of the first of their new surround ambisonics mics.

As ever Mix With The Pros was a very well attended event with standing room only and we look forward to the next Mix With the Pros in 2017.
