Should You Use The Avid Application Manager? Our Advice

There's been some discussion about the Avid Application Manager and its less than stellar reliability. We had been discussing it for some time on the team and most of us had found it did not live up to its name.

The Avid Application Manager is a simple concept - in theory it's a small application that should alert you of updates to both main applications and any Avid plugins you own. Our team found it buggy, unresponsive and about as likely to alert you of a Pro Tools update as your teenage son alerting you to the fact that the porn block had been turned off by your ISP.

We thought we might just be unlucky so decided to ask the community to tell us what their experience of the Avid Application Manager was; of over 500 responses around 3% said it worked without issue, whilst over 77% either didn't use it at all or relied instead on checking their Avid account for updates.

It seems the Avid Application Manager doesn't manage your applications, so our advice is don't use it at all, in fact most of our team have removed it from their systems entirely.

We've asked Avid for a response to our findings and as yet have no news, but we suggest we all sit on our hands until Avid have managed to get the Application Manager managing applications. Pro Tools Expert are always super fast at making sure you know about Pro Tools updates so keep checking here for the latest Pro Tools news.

We'll keep you updated.
