Today Sound Radix released a new update of Surfer EQ - welcome Surfer EQ2. I am thrilled to see this update as I am a big fan of Surfer EQ version 1. Surfer EQ has been my go to EQ plug-in for a while as the pitch tracking (surf) EQ feature really helps me to focus bass guitar lines within my mixes - read the article I posted that lists Surfer EQ - Dan Cooper On Mixing Bass Guitar - My Pro Tools Plug-in Chain.
So What Is New In Surfer EQ2?
I never felt as though Surfer EQ was missing any features. It looks as though Sound Radix have improved on many features I like as well as introducing some new EQ techniques that look to take Surfer EQ to new heights.
"SURFEREQ follows the pitch of a monophonic instrument or vocal in real-time and can adjust any of its bands accordingly, thus "Surfing" the sound waves." - Sound Radix
I am pleased to see that Sound Radix have included a new "Surf Time" control that enable users to adjust the speed of the tracking. This feature alone should make the plug-in more useable on quick tempo material.
Sound Designers should take note of Surfer EQ2 as Sound Radix have also included a new four-mode Harmonic Filter enabling users to control the entire harmonic series of an instrument using just a single static or surfing band of EQ.
