Community members who use video a lot, not only in Pro Tools but also in Studio One and Logic Pro, will already be familiar with the wonderful Video Slave 2 Pro, especially from my review earlier this year.

Non Lethal Applications have been really busy over the last few months, intensely talking with users across all genres - music scoring and mixing, language re-versioning and original version ADR, finding out what more they can add, to quite frankly an already incredible piece of software.

In my recent review for Indoor by Audio Ease, I had to record pieces to camera in several locations, knowing that I was going to replace all the audio on them. This involved me marking up all the dialogue I said, then re-recording it at my studio in Shoreditch, so I would have pristine audio to use with the Indoor reverb. New Features

Pro Tools Integration

Video Slave 3 Dub integrates with Pro Tools to allow you to quickly and easily mark up ADR cues direct from your session, as you can see above. Simply mark a region in Pro Tools, then it is a single click to import this timecode region in to Video Slave 3, where you can then add script and assign characters etc.

The program automatically adds virtual MIDI ports for Pro Tools to connect to -

And then provides a floating window to set up the track allocations and give remote control over your DAW.

Video Slave 3 Dub can completely remote control Pro Tools, so it is possible to conduct an entire ADR session without even looking at the Pro Tools screen. Set up is simple and logical.

Export Movies And Event Lists

This is a killer feature that's new in the latest version. Many times I have wanted to be able to send the actor a preview video of the work that they're going to be doing, or send the director a video with all the requested ADR.

Video Slave 3 can export the movie, or a pre-defined region, to H264 or ProRes, the former of which can easily be viewed on a mobile device or computer.

You can easily select which visual events you want superimposed, and the proprietary video engine means this is a swift process.

You can also export a CSV list of the visual events, so should your movie get recut, you can easily use software like Conformalizer to reconform your ADR list.

Conclusion

The new features and hardware compatibility of Video Slave 3 are a natural development of an already brilliant software package. The already reliable playback is further enhanced, and the new ADR list management and Pro Tools integration make the software quick and simple to use.

I've recently completed post production on two movies, and although I didn't have to record any ADR for them, I still used Video Slave 3 extensively to keep track of recuts and versions.
