Rode Announce New Microphones Including VideoMic Soundfield

Information is sketchy at the moment but what we do know is that The Freedman Electronics Group – the parent company for pro audio brands including RØDE Microphones, Event Electronics, Aphex and SoundField, as part of its 50th year of business have announced the following new products at a pre NAMM 2017 event....

  • TFM-50 - Valve omnidirectional microphone, produced in collaboration with Grammy Award-winning classical music producer Tony Faulkner.
  • NT-49 - Valve Studio Microphone.
  • NTR-V - Valve Ribbon Microphone.
  • NT-5 Matched Pair - Improved capsule technology for a best-in-class pair of studio condenser microphones.
  • VideoMic Pro+ - On-camera video shotgun microphone.
  • VideoMic SoundField - The world’s first on-camera ambisonic, 360-degree surround sound microphone.

The only current information is in a glossy sales video with a duration of nearly 34 minutes, but the product that has grabbed my attention is the VideoMic Soundfield. It is very interesting that from their acquisition of the the Soundfield brand in November to announcing the first Rode Soundfield related product, is impressive. Although we don't have any pricing yet, it looks as if the VideoMic Soundfield will provide a cost effective solution to go with VR acquisition hardware and as we have said before VR has enabled Ambisonics to find a home.
