Read This Before You Install Pro Tools 12.8.2 - VCAs Missing From Pro Tools - Update - Installers Fixed

After the release of Pro Tools 12.8.2 at the AES show, some users of Pro Tools (Vanilla) are reporting that under 12.8.2, VCAs are inactivated, while it has been widely reported, as all of the Pro Tools Expert team are HD users we aren't in a position to test this at short notice.

This appears to be a bug or an "undocumented feature" as such things are euphemistically called. However, until it is addressed it is something Vanilla users should be aware of.

Update - Avid has released a Technical Alert on the DUC confirming that VCA Tracks are inactive in Pro Tools 12.8.2 and the current recommendation from Avid is that if you use VCA Tracks in Pro Tools you should not update to version 12.8.2 yet. Avid has now released an updatd installer see below...  Note that Pro Tools HD 12.8.2 is not affected.

Update - New Pro Tools 12.8.2R2 Installers Available

Avid has confirmed that there is a new 12.8.2R2 installer available in Avid Master Accounts, which fixes the inactive VCA problem referred to above. Note that the latest version may not appear in the Avid Application Manager immediately, so, for now, it may be better to get the 12.8.2R2 installer from your Avid Master Account.

You can also confirm that you have the correct version by looking on the Pro Tools splash screen as below. It should say Version: 12.8.2x106...

Eucon 3.7 Installer Issues

We've had reports from a reliable source that the Eucon 3.7 installer for Mac isn't cleanly overwriting old files and is causing crashes, we're told Avid are aware and are addressing the issue.

Avid has also posted a Technical Alert on the DUC with regard to this issue.

Due to problems reported after installing 3.7 over previous versions, we are recommending that users uninstall any previous version (Applications/Euphonix on Mac, Control Panels\Programs and Features on Windows) then run the 3.7 installer. A new installer is in the works to solve this.

On another post on the DUC Eddie Jones from Avid says...

We found the issue and it's not to do with the software but the installer. The workaround until we generate a new installer is to simply uninstall 3.7(or3.6) and reinstall it. No need for the Clean EUCON script. If this doesn't work you can manually delete the offending files after uninstalling.  You can do this in the Finder by going to the Go menu and choosing Go To Folder… and type in /usr/local/lib.
You should not see libEuCon2.dylib or libEuConDLL.dylibIf you do, delete them, then reinstall. We are working on the new installer......

Then later they have posted this on the DUC...

Note that a problem with the original installer for 3.7 (which required a clean install) was identified and a fixed installer was posted 10/19.

Eucon 3.7 Installer Now Updated

Avid has now informed us that the Eucon 3,7 installers available in your Avid Master Accounts are the new installers that will install correctly without the need to do a clean install referred to above. But note that the Eucon 3.7 installers do not have an updated version number. The updated installer is still v3.7, but Avid have confirmed to us that the 3.7 installer available in our My Avid Master Accounts is the fixed version.

On the DUC Eddie Jones has posted this direct link to the updated Eucon 3.7 installer.

Yosemite Not Qualified With 12.8.2

The other thing to be aware of is that Pro Tools 12.8.2 doesn't support Yosemite. Avid have been very clear about this but it appears to be catching some of the community unawares. Avid say:

Users who are running Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite should upgrade their OS before updating to Pro Tools 12.8.2. Mac OS 10.11 El Capitan and macOS 10.12 Sierra are supported with Pro Tools 12.8.2. Also note that macOS 10.13 High Sierra is still being qualified with Pro Tools as of this writing.

16th October 2017 Update: GUI Sluggishness Reported In 12.8.2

We've had reports of sluggish behaviour in 12.8.2 from many users though a pattern to these issues in terms of hardware/software/OS combinations is hard to see at this stage. In a thread on the Avid Pro Audio Community (DUC)  several community members report their issues and system specs.

Suggested fixes include rolling back to 12.8.1 but other suggestions include changing display resolution to the monitor's native resolution if running higher or to lower than native resolutions. There are reports that this is an issue which stems from changes Apple made to its graphics engine and affects Macs unpredictably but a suggestion if you are affected is to change the colour setting to sRGB IEC61966-2.1

These are suggestions which should be tried in addition to the standard troubleshooting recommendations. Are you having issues with 12.8.2? if so please share your experience in the comments section below.
