An Introduction To The Universal Audio OX - The Amp Top Box

James Ivey sits down with Dave Lenat from Universal Audio to take a first look at the new OX - The Amp Top Box. The OX is a reactive load box for use with your valve guitar amplifier but it is also a DSP driven speaker and microphone emulator to give you access to a wealth of different tones from your amp in a controlled way.

Dave demonstrates the OX with James' Chandler GAV-19T all-valve guitar amplifier head showing how to mix and match microphones and cabinets to get some really stunning guitar tones.

OX - The Amp Top Box is a very usable way to play and record your challengingly loud valve guitar amp in any location, be that your home, in the studio or even live on stage at any volume.  OX can tame the loudest of high gain heads and make them very microphone friendly but OX is more than just a "power soak".  The cabinet emulations are really very good and short of having a speaker cabinet collection to rival producer Andy Sneap, OX could be the way to keep your guitar recording options open until that magic moment when you dial in that perfect combination of speaker breakup, cone cry and room tone.

This video is the first part of James' OX- The Amp Top Box guitar journey. We hope to have a unit very soon for a full deep dive review.
