What Is The Difference Between The Standard And 3D Versions

Unlike previous Exponential Audio products that were either stereo or surround, the key difference between the standard and 3D versions of Stratus and Symphony is that if you need height information for formats like Dolby Atmos or Auro 3D then you need the 3D versions. If you are using 2D formats from mono up to 7.1 and SDDS then the standard ones will be fine.

Stratus Reverb Plug-in

Stratus is designed to combine an unobtrusive natural sound, similar to Phoenixverb, with greater user control.  New dynamic capabilities allow your mixes to have even greater clarity.  And with the 3D option, you can move right into the new worlds of Atmos, DTS-X, Auro3D and other exiting formats.  Here are a few of the new features:

  • Expanded EQ, building on the popular NIMBUS architecture.  Not only have they added bandpass and notch filters on the early reflections and tails, but they have also added an input EQ to help keep undesired elements out of the reverb.
  • Dense and powerful early reflection control -- twice as dense as PhoenixVerbSurround. There's a unique reflection pattern from every input to every output. You'll never worry about compatible fold-down.
  • As with all Exponential Audio reverbs every single reverb channel is decorrelated. You don't have to worry about colour changes when that mix comes down to stereo or mono. This becomes more and more important as channel counts go up and mix time goes down.
  • Dynamic control with tail-suppression (expanded from NIMBUS).  Your mix will keep itself clear.
  • Warp, to add even more timbral and dynamic control. Warp incorporates a compander, an overdrive circuit and even word-size reduction. You can turn it on and off whenever you need it.
  • More stem options.  Not only can you have mono-in/surround out.  You can easily generate a surround reverb from LCR input.  Or a 7.0 output from 5.0 input.  There are even more options.
  • Optional tempo control of pre-delay and reverb delay.  Rhythmic score?  Check out how much pop you can add without needing a calculator by your side.
  • Presets, whether factory presets or your own user presets, work in all surround formats. If you've worked hard on a 5.0 preset, it's going to sound great in 7.1 or Atmos without modification.

Symphony Reverb Plug-in

Symphony is designed to add warmth and character to any mix, like the R2 and R4 before it, but it has been designed to provide greater user control than ever before.  New dynamic capabilities allow your mixes to have even greater clarity.  And with the 3D option, you can move right into the new worlds of Atmos, DTS-X, Auro3D and other exiting formats.  Here are a few of the new features:

  • Expanded EQ, building on theR4 architecture.  Not only have they added bandpass and notch filters on the early reflections and tails, but they have also added an input EQ to help keep undesired elements out of the reverb.
  • Dense and powerful early reflection control, twice as dense as R2Surround. There's a unique reflection pattern from every input to every output. You'll never worry about compatible fold-down.

  • Freeze.  Grab the tail and run it as long as you want.  Sustain a tone, a chord or a room tone.
  • Dynamic control with tail-suppression (expanded from NIMBUS).  Your mix will keep itself clear.

The 3D option gives you licenses for both basic and 3D versions of the Straus and Symphony plug-ins. Sessions and plug-ins are compatible so that work you've done with basic versions will restore perfectly when you install 3D versions.  Sessions you've done in 3D will restore if only the basic version is installed, but of course, the 3D capabilities won't be there in the basic version. You'll see a notice about this in the plug-in GUI.
