In the Pro Tools Expert 2017 Christmas Competition, we offered the chance to win one of 31 great prizes worth over $16,000 in total. John Freeman is the winner of a Wavesfactory bundle of Mercury, Sharine and Legacy Drums worth $270.

I am a software engineer who has worked in the audio and video industries for the past 28 years, with a passion for creating for fusing classical genres (classical, rock, blues and folk) with ambient and electronic music. Being a father of eight children, I do not have the room for a decent sized studio, so anything I have is portable. As they grow up, I intend on building upon that and start teaching the art of composition, recording, mixing and mastering.

My ambition as I slide gently towards middle age is to grow a studio environment so that local musicians can have an affordable place to have their music recorded and mastered, and for people to learn how a studio works by getting hands-on experience of mixing and mastering. Sadly the music industry is about money, where it should be about enjoyment and self-expression.

The Wavesfactory unique bundle has Freddie Mercury's beautiful Fazioli piano sampled, something my setup is sadly missing. Being a huge Queen fan, this addition means a lot to me both emotionally and creatively. Being a software and audio engineer, I can relate to the huge amount of work that has gone in to sampling this amazing piano, and bringing the unique queen sound to any studio.
