In this video I am going to look at how to get the right "size" for a sound.

Frequencies, especially the low end can determine the size of a object. If you add more low end, the bigger or stronger your object will appear.  But for a movie or a sound design you don't always you need the powerful sound, rather you need to the sound fits on the scene. If everything ends up being 'big' then there is no variation in the soundscape.

So don't shy away from making things smaller and a very simple way is to use a basic filter plugin and see how low-cut can work some magic.
 
I have to say that in my opinion  a low cut filter is one of the most powerful tools a sound designer has at their disposal.
 
In this video see how using only a low-cut filter you can determine a size of an object with the same sound, cutting more or less!!
