Should Studio Outboard Gear Have Plug-in Counterpart For Easy Recall?

Tegeler Audio Manufaktur, the makers of my Crème outboard compressor & EQ unit, have just released a free set of graphical only plug-ins that enables the quick and easy storing and recalling of Tegeler Audio hardware settings in DAWs. Each plug-in has been designed to look and function just like their respective hardware units. These are not audio emulations of Tegeler hardware, rather, these are a set of very cool workflow tools called Digital Recall Sheets that other studio outboard manufacturers should take not of.

For me, this is a big deal. I have always found it a bit of a pain storing outboard hardware settings in either Pro Tools track comments or my iPhone photo library. Thankfully Tegeler came up with these simple yet very useful plug-in recall solutions including one for my Crème.

Yesterday I was mixing three different songs using my Crème. As I closed each session I dialled in each setting from the hardware into the plug-in counterpart with my mouse - that simple. The next day I had to open a session and recall a handful of Crème settings - this plug-in helped me get my session setup again much faster than I could have before using pictures taken on my phone.

Start Of A New Trend?

This got me thinking... shouldn't all, if not at least modern offerings of studio outboard gear have a free plug-in counterpart that makes it easier for us to store and recall hardware settings?
