Glitchedtones Release Data Disruption And Impact Sound Libraries

Sound designer Stuart Keenan has been in touch to tell me about two new libraries he has released under the Glitchedtones label and are available from A Sound Effect.

Data Disruption contains 200 sounds sourced from raw computer files which have been interpreted as audio data. Bitmaps, executables, plugin files and more have been exploited to bring you a unique, varied collection of sound effects and atmospheres ready for a range of productions.

This sound collection has 100 'raw' files which include harsh, random data noises, intense drones and a versatile selection of glitch one shots as well as 100 processed sounds which were subject to extreme editing and mangling to deliver an array of abstract sonic artefacts.

Most useful for scenarios where computer technology – known or otherwise – is glitching out, these sounds are best suited to Science Fiction productions which call for the noise of broken communications, signal failures, ailing machines, industrial settings, planetary ambience and dystopian soundworlds.

Impact is a 100 sound collection of light and heavy abstract hits sourced from lo-fi recordings of the destruction of laptops, mobile phones and a handheld games console. The sounds have been manipulated with extreme editing and digital processing – leaving little to no trace of the original recordings behind – to bring a series of production elements ready to drop into your latest trailer, environment or Industrial/EDM music production.

Featuring huge sonic eruptions, metal on metal collisions, robotic movement, found sound snare drums, tech debris and more, this versatile array of sound effects may be just what you need to give your latest production that extra bit of Impact.

Mark Mangini & Richard Anderson Join the Pro Sound Effects Library

Pro Sound Effects is teaming up with Academy Award-winning sound editors, Mark Mangini (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Fifth Element and more) and Richard L. Anderson (The Lion King, Raiders of the Lost Ark and more), to release exclusive sound effects libraries.

Currently, in development, the libraries include around 100,000 sounds from Mangini and Anderson’s private collection of recordings encompassing over 30 years of feature film sound. Mark Mangini told us....

Richard and I believe sound designers will love having this library at their fingertips, giving them full access to high quality, carefully recorded, and impeccably organised professional sound effects that have been instrumental to our own success. We still use these sounds every day on award-winning films and current projects.

New Protest Sound Effects Library From Thomas Rex Beverly - NOW FREE

Philadelphia Crowds and Protest Chants has the rowdy and raucous chants from three political protests following the 2016 US Election. The recordings include a wide variety of chants ranging from the universal “What do we want? Freedom! When do we want it? Now!”, to the timely “Hey, Ho, Donald Trump has got to go!”, to bucket-drummers accompanying “No hate, no fear, refugees are welcome here!” Thomas explains...

I recorded intense and emotional perspectives by wading into the unruliest crowds. Recorded with a boom-mounted Sennheiser MKH 50 and 30, you can hear these chants from above for the best balance of voices and sound quality. Plus, you receive many types of emotional crowd reactions, news helicopters hovering, and much more.  Two percent of the price of this library is donated to a cause that supports political refugees.

C O L O S S A L Release London Pubs And Athens & Crete Sound Effects Libraries

Rowan Watson has been in touch to tell me that he and Luke Gentry have teamed up and started a sound library company called Colossal. They both work in film as sound effects editors and Rowan tells me that they are dedicated to putting libraries out the that are easy to cut with, and that are full of detail.

London Pubs is a bespoke collection of crowd recordings from all over foggy London Town. They hand picked the finest pubs based on the locals and acoustics, with each recording offering a unique sense of space and character. From the sweet and quaint to the darn right scary, they recorded them all.

There are the pissed and disorderly, jovial folk waxing lyrical, raucous football fans, relaxed pub garden chatter, through-the-wall conversations, Quiz Night whispers and more.

They have made sure there isn't a musical note in sight and there are two perspectives with their binaural quad recordings. Rowan explains...

We often recorded with 2 rigs in one venue, offering up binaural perspectives that are discrete and in sync.. they're really nice to move one perspective into the LR and the other discrete take into the rears. Natural and immersive..

From the ancient bustling markets to the untouched natural beauty of the Mediterranean coast, Athens & Crete epitomises the notion of two sonic worlds colliding. They set out with the goal of capturing this historical part of the world and quickly learned this could only be done by fully embracing this polarity and so here are two libraries in one.

Athens, the capital city, steeped in history, wrestles elegantly with the old and new. Market trader calls fill the archaic streets as they have for centuries before whilst across town the modern heart of Athens beats to the sound of cars and motorbikes. They captured street buskers, back alley murmurs, bustling city squares, markets, heavy traffic, skylines and even a religious sermon.

400km away from the chaos of Athens sits the serene island of Crete, a picture of unchanged Mediterranean life. Unlike Athens, nature dominates here and they got our ankles wet recording all she has to offer; big surf, coves and gurgling rock pools. Mountain goats, crows, roosters and an early dawn chorus. Insects of the Agia Erini Gorge – more Cicadas than you can shake a stick at!

Smackheads Release Farmed Out Library From Rural Australia

Mark Brandis has been in touch to tell me about a new library he has released. Recorded in rural Australia Farmed Out includes a large number of natural bush ambiences recorded at all times of the day. There are plenty of birds, some sheep, turkeys, bees, cicadas, crickets, dogs and chickens. As well as motor vehicles on gravel, chainsaws, campfires, generators, footsteps, and even a wall construction.  The Australian bush is something very close to Mark's heart and most of these recordings were taken on his family's property in Molong New South Wales.

Avosound Introduces The Soundelux Sound Library

Guido from Avosound, formerly Soundeffects.ch, has been in touch to tell me the availability of the Soundelux sound library. For more than 30 years, Soundelux was one of the leading audio post-production companies in Hollywood and around the world. Over the years the Soundelux Editors won many awards, including 22 Oscars, 41 Emmys, BAFTAs and CAS awards as well as countless nominations and other trophies.

It was certainly sad to see Soundelux Studio go out of business – but its main body of work, the comprehensive and unique sound archive mixed and mastered by the masters of the Soundelux labs, remains available. Soundelux is synonymous with ultimate quality; its library might well be the most comprehensive archive available for licensing.

The Soundelux Sound Library currently features 174,000 tracks from all sorts of sonic backgrounds. But Soundelux is not just a massive collection of sounds and noises, it is also a highly organised archive that was constantly updated and expanded over the decades by award-winning sound designers and sound engineers. The sounds in the Soundelux Sound Library were carefully catalogued by the Soundelux team in order to create a comprehensive, all-inclusive archive.

Pricing And Licensing

There is no price published on the Avosound website. Apparently, there are several licensing models available for the use of Soundelux. As with other archives, the sound files in the Soundelux Sound Library are 'royalty free', i.e. you do not need to pay any further fees. The licenses are based on the number of users that need to access the Library. if you plan to use Soundelux as an individual user, they can offer the Soundelux Sound Library for an annual fee or with a one-off buyout but be aware the license is granted only to YOU as the sole user of the archive.

HISSandaROAR Release Japan City Ambiences Library

Tim Prebble from HISSandaROAR set out to capture elements of the complex sonic world of urban Japan for Japan City Ambiences. Ranging from metropolitan Tokyo and Osaka business districts, residential areas & parks, mass transit systems, as well as smaller cities and towns such as Kawasaki, Yokohama, Kyoto, Kobe, Amagasaki and Ofuna. Ambiences range from busy freeway and shopping areas, to quieter back streets and suburban zones. Recorded, edited and delivered multitrack via Sennheiser MKH8040x2 ORTF LR plus MKH8020x2 spaced omni microphones and Sound Devices 788T recorder.

Tilman and Emil from TONSTRUM have been in touch to tell me that they have just released a new website for their sound libraries. Tilman told me...

SoundBits Release Tiny Transitions Library With 25% Discount Until May 8th

Tiny Transitions delivers 275 short Whooshes and other Transition sounds. Instead of the huge, more cinematic transitional sounds that you might be accustomed hearing from SoundBits, this sound pack focuses more on the smaller, not-so-intrusive production elements that come in very handy.

All these small motion-supporting elements could be useful in everyday work for game menus, apps, general motion designs, … or as parts of more complex moving stuff.

You get 275 designed sounds plus a selection of 290 cleaned and edited source sounds that were used to design the Tiny Transitions. These sounds are mostly different props that are scraping or sliding on different surfaces and also some vocalised whoosh attempts.
