iZotope Update Their Spire iOS Recording App With Collaboration

iZotope first released Spire back in August 2015 as a 4 track iOS recording musical notepad type of app. But now they have quietly released an update adding a number of new features including collaboration and more tracks.

What's New In iZotope Spire V1.2.1

  • Expanded multitrack support from four to eight tracks
  • Added trim functionality
  • Added undo functionality
  • Added the ability to export individual tracks
  • Added the ability to share projects with other Spire users
  • Added audio import functionality
  • Added count-in functionality
  • You may now choose iPhone mic as input source when headphones (with built-in mic) are plugged in
  • Various bug fixes and user interface improvements

3 Steps

Step 1 - Record you can capture edit and layer up to 8 tracks, cleaning pup unwanted audio and creating loops to.

Step 2 - You can mix your 8 tracks adjusting level and pan and selecting mono or stereo playback

Step 3 - From the app you can share a track with a friend to collaborate on a project or send the finished song to social media. You can also export your tracks to bring them into other systems like Pro Tools if you wish.

iZotope have designed Spire to offer a simple way for musicians and audio dabblers to record, mix, and share their content with the world via an 8-track recording app. Spire is powered by iZotope’s digital signal processing (DSP) technology, and with built-in audio enhancement, Spire allows anyone to record, mix and share wherever and whenever inspiration strikes.

Users can record up to 8 tracks, tap and set the tempo with a  metronome, and personalise each track with touch-and-drag mixing controls and then easily share their creation with fellow bandmates and friends to continue the fun or share with the world.

Features include:

  • Built-in limiter, de-esser, dynamic EQ, compressor, and stereo imager.
  • Simple touch-and-drag mixing and adjustable mic input controls
  • Voice command offers hands-free control so you can keep your hands on your instrument
  • Streamlined metronome – choose your tempo or tap it out

Why Do This?

It seems a strange thing for iZotope to do when you consider their product range like RX, Ozone, Neutron and so on, but when you get to know the team at iZotope so many of then are musicians and passionate about making music and this seems to be a response to that passion to help fellow musicians to capture and share ideas as simply as possible.

I am left wondering if this is it or if this is the start of something new, time will tell...
