Community Feedback Kindly Sponsored by RSPE Audio Solutions

“Let’s Talk Avid”, from our friends at RSPE, is an opportunity for customers old and new to call them on the phone as RSPE have some great prices that they cannot publish online. So if you are looking for a deal on pro audio gear and you live in the US, especially the west coast, then call RSPE on their toll-free number 855.632.1032 and see what they can offer you. You can also check out a special page to see some of the product ranges they have on offer, but to get the discount you will need to talk to the RSPE team on the phone.

  • George Majerus has some feedback on audio from the MacPro to the Monitors. He has hooked up the Mac Digital ADAT out to an Apogee Rosetta. He says that “what appears to be a cool setup is not, since I experience the occasional clicks and pops which clearly indicate clocking issues. I am not even sure how the Mac derives its Wordclock sync signal. I thought it would clock on the incoming ADAT. I wonder if Mike has the same issues or what I need to do to prevent that”.

Questions From The Community

  • Paul Burgess is hoping we might be able to give him some suggestions for a hardware recorder that he can actually switch on and just go. He says “I’m tired of the constant battle trying to maintain my recording tools on a computer. Between OS and App updates it's just one big expensive headache. Too many times have I sat down when inspiration strikes only to be confronted with Pro Tools having a hissy fit about something. This is not a dig at pro tools, it's just computer-based systems in general. My creativity is being curtailed by the technology. I don't need anything fancy that a porta-studio offers but I would like 4-8 channels with XLR inputs and an easy way to get the audio exported to Pro Tools”.
  • Larry Primrose has two connected questions to get the best out of a legacy Pro Tools system. He is looking for an expansion chassis to take Pro Tools PCI-x cards and use them with a PCI-e G5 Mac. Alternatively is he bought some PCIe Pro Tools cards would they be compatible with Pro Tools 7.0 HD running on OSX 10.4.6 in an Intel PCIe Mac (2006-2007).

Source Connect Now

As you may know, we are spread out around the UK & Europe when we record the podcast. In the past, we have used a variety of internet-based solutions so we could hear each other.  We have settled on Source Connect Now which gives us ISDN equivalent quality audio using a Chrome browser, no software to install. You can get a free account from Source Elements.
