Saturday Synth Expert Weekly Round Up - Part 5

This is the fifth in a regular feature in which we will highlight some of the excellent news, articles, tutorials and competitions we have on our new sister site Synth Expert. This week we feature a review of the UVI OB Legacy, a video interview with Arnar Adalsteinsson, Reykjavik's resident Synth Expert, an opportunity to win a Novation UltraNova and a tip from Russ about how to move Roland Cloud instruments to another drive on a Mac.

UVI OB Legacy Review

UVI, the makers of many popular software instruments such as Synth Anthology 2 and developer of the underpinnings of MOTU's MachFive sample platform (many UVI instruments are in fact compatible with MachFive), recently released Vintage Vault 2, a huge synth instrument bundle filled with many popular UVI synth libraries and keyboard virtual instruments. Included in the latest version of Vintage Vault 2 is a new synth library called OB Legacy, devoted to Oberheim synthesizers.

Competition - Win A Novation UltraNova

It's one of the most versatile little synths ever made, and in a nice shade of TARDIS blue at that. No purchase is required to enter. Simply enter your first and last names and your email address and you're in. The drawing closes at the end of October. We will randomly select and announce the winner on November 1, 2017. Good luck!

Synthy Iceland Part 1 - A Visit to Lalaland

Arnar Adalsteinsson is both an accomplished music producer and the proprietor of Lalaland Synth Repair, located at the tip of the harbor facing the city skyline. He is THE guy in Iceland if you want your beloved analog synth in top shape, and does some beautiful upgrades and modifications as well. He was kind enough to show me around the shop, which contains some true rarities as well as classics we know and love, in the video below.

How To Move Your Roland Cloud Instruments To Another Drive - Mac

The Roland Cloud has a lot of good points, with some very cool, retro synths to enjoy.

We have searched high and low on the Roland FAQs and other forums and it seems there is currently no option for it. However Russ has a workaround...

More About Synth Expert

Our new Synth Expert website is where you will find news, reviews, and how-tos about all things synthesizer. the editor is Stephen Fortner who is a lifelong keyboard player and synth enthusiast and got his start in music technology journalism when Keyboard magazine published a writing sample he had sent them in the late 1990s. He became the technical editor at the beginning of 2006 and the magazine's editor in chief in 2009 through to 2015. Stephen , what are your aims for Synth Expert?

SF: It's my intention that Synth Expert becomes a "big tent." Analog and digital. Hardware and software. Mono and poly. Keyboard synths and modular gear and the musicians who prefer one or the other.

That's not to say we want to be, or can be, all things to all people. DJ technology and culture, for example, will not be a main focus, digital pianos meant for the living room? Well, once in a while, maybe a few of the more synthy ones.

We will maintain a permanent and ever-growing list of free synth plug-ins from third parties. Like the other sites in the Production Expert family, Synth Expert also has Facebook and Twitter feeds to help you keep up to date. Thanks for joining me on this journey, and I hope we have a lot of fun together.
