Western Digital who own SanDisk has announced its 400GB SanDisk Ultra® microSDXC UHS-I card, which they claim is the world’s highest-capacity microSD card for use in mobile devices.

Continuing to prove Moores law, just two years after introducing its 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card, Western Digital has doubled the capacity within the same tiny form factor.

SanDisk claims that the world’s highest-capacity card can hold up to 40 hours of Full HD video and features superfast transfer speeds of up to 100MB/s. At this transfer speed, consumers can expect to move up to 1,200 photos per minute. 

Pricing and Availability

The 400GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card features a ten-year limited warranty and will be available at SanDisk store and other major retailers at a U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $249.99.

Initial Thoughts

With these kinds of data rate transfers, this could become a replacement for hard drives, as 400GB is a decent size and $250 is a fair price. Out on location you could slide one of these into an SD slot on the side of your MacBook Pro and record session after session. However just make sure you don't loose these little gems.
