In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Spaceship Delay from Musical Entropy. A flexible delay plug-in which offers some features premium delay plug-ins do not.
Saturation, Modelling And Filters
The Spaceship Delay offers mono, stereo or ping-pong delay, syncable to the host bpm with filters, modulations effects and saturation - so far, so normal. Where the Spaceship delay starts to get more interesting is in the ability to choose the position in the signal flow of those filters. The addition of a spring reverb effect before the delay line is unusual and even more unusual is the Attack control - a noise gate which blocks the input into the delay line based on level allowing a dynamic delay effect which only passes loud signals into the delay line.
Frippertronic Loops
The inclusion of a delay freeze button allows instant infinite looping, my favourite feature as it encourages the creation of the "slightly off" loops which hardware samplers were so good at. How about a button to export the buffer as a wav file?
How Do I Get This Plug-in?
Go to the Musical Entropy website and download the plug-in. This needs to be manually installed to Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins on a Mac or to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Ins on a Windows machine.
A folder of presets and tutorial text files is included and on the first launch of the plug-in the install locations for these files is provided. These plug-ins don't require an iLok or any authorisation.
