Tutorial - Changing Grid And Nudge Values From The Keyboard In Pro Tools

See this content in the original post

In this premium video tutorial, Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates changing Grid and Nudge values using keyboard shortcuts in Pro Tools to place a sample by ear.

Unlinking Timeline And Edit Selections

To use this technique effectively it is important to unlink the timeline and edit selections. This is important because without doing this it would be very laborious to audition the result of each nudge as the timeline selection would need to be reset each time the position of the sample changed.

Change Nudge And Grid Values Using Shortcuts

In this demonstration Julian uses a saxophone sample over drums and a bassline and uses a combination of grid and nudge changes to audition different positions in the bar for this sample. In this example the changes are all in tick-based subdivisions but finer, feel based nudges can be achieved by changing the timebase of the nudge command in to milliseconds or even to samples.
