Michael Brauer And Andrew Scheps are just two of the better known proponents of using multiple parallel processing chains. While ideally suited to a workflow using a mixing console and hardware, this technique is transferable to an in the box workflow and while the process is interesting, things can get out of hand quickly.

Additive Processes

The thing which has always put me off this technique is that, being an inherently additive process, it inevitably introduces additional level, making level matched comparison difficult. There isn't one quick fix for this but a second issue is that level-dependent processes like compression and saturation have a sweet spot and by introducing more signals to that processing chain things can get out of control. This is what is addressed in this tutorial.
