Pro Tools Expert Deputy Editor Dan Cooper continues his free video tutorial series that shows you his entire GeorgieDAN music production workflow in Pro Tools.
This episode covers Dan's mono acoustic guitar recording workflow. Dan plans to record hard panned doubled electric guitar parts later in the production stage that you will see in the next tutorial - Stage 6 Electric Guitar Recording. If hard panned electric guitars are going to be featured in a production along with a rhythm acoustic guitar part then it is wise to record the acoustic guitar using a single mono microphone panned up the centre of the mix to avoid a crowded sounding stereo field.
Watch the video to hear how small performer location changes left and right of the microphone produce different acoustic guitar tones. It pays dividends to get an acoustic guitar tone that compliments the song and production at source. Achieving an acoustic guitar tone that's well suited to a production in the tracking stage saves having to over process acoustic tracks in the mix with EQ.
