TK Audio Release DP-2 - A Dual Microphone Preamp

You might not have heard of TK Audio but they are a Swedish boutique manufacturer offering a wide range of analog hardware in both 19 inch and 500 series formats, including preamps, compressors, equalizers and other utilities. Today they have announced the immediate availability of the dual microphone preamp DP-2. The DP-2 has a number of user-selectable circuit options, designed to make the DP-2 a 'cost-effective' way of covering a wide range of preamp characteristics.

Each channel also has a sweepable high-pass filter (ranging from 30 to 400 Hz), switchable input impedance, 48V phantom power, a 30 dB pad and a Hi-Z instrument input.

Two Different Input Stages

Each of the DP-2’s two channels is transformer balanced, using a high-end Lundahl transformer. The amplification stage offers an impressive 80 dB of gain and is switchable between two entirely different circuits, one is designed for maximum transparency and the other adds a bit of midrange crunch, thanks to its germanium transistors.

Two Different Output Stages

The output stage has two different circuits. One is electronically balanced—again, for maximum transparency and fidelity—while the other is a class A output circuit based around a Carnhill transformer for the coveted British 70’s character, with its low-mid presence and pleasantly rounded top end.

Mix And Match

You can choose the input and output stages that best suit what you are working on and the DP-2 also has separate input and output gain controls enabling you to keep a conservative input level for low distortion or deliberately overdrive the preamp for a more pronounced character. All controls are stepped for precise recall. These options make the DP-2 a cost-effective way of achieving a wide range of preamp characteristics in one unit.

Price And Availability

The TK Audio DP-2 is now available worldwide and is priced at $1649/€1329/£1149 excluding sales tax/VAT.
