Free Dolby Atmos Online Training Courses From Dolby Institute

Have you ever asked “what exactly is Dolby Atmos?  or “how do mixers learn to produce content in the format? If you have then The Dolby Institute, in partnership with the Conservatory of Recording Arts and Sciences, has launched the first free online training curriculum focused on Dolby Atmos.

The director of The Dolby Institute Glenn Kiser told us…

“Dolby Atmos has been embraced by the top talents in the feature film and television sound business, but we saw a need to develop scalable tools and make them available to anyone who wants to learn how to use this amazing storytelling tool.”

The online curriculum currently has 3 modules:

Core Concepts

The Core Course will provide audio professionals with an understanding of the Dolby Atmos ecosystem and how content is authored, mastered, and delivered. Dolby Atmos is not one single technology, but a collection of technologies that span from authoring in the production facility to delivery mechanisms including headphones, mobile devices, sound bars, audio/video receivers, cinemas, TV OTT/broadcast, games, Blu-ray, and Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Mixing for Live Television

Mixing in Dolby Atmos for live television requires an understanding of new concepts, equipment, and workflows. This course provides a broad outline of these ideas and takes you step by step through the process of configuring Dolby equipment to deliver a Dolby Atmos mix.

Installation and Mixing Guidelines

Professional mixing studios and broadcast trucks will need to be modified in order to accommodate Dolby Atmos. Here there are supplemental materials to help guide you through the extra equipment needed, installation guidelines, and example configurations to help convert your space to a Dolby Atmos mix environment. Also included, best practices for mixing in Dolby Atmos for live television.

More To Follow

The Dolby Institute say that additional courses are in development and will be available soon.
