Duplicate Clips Backwards Down the Timeline With This Pro Tools Keyboard Shortcut - Expert Tip

In this free video tutorial Pro Tools Expert team member Julian Rodgers demonstrates a useful tip showing how it is possible to duplicate a clip backwards down the timeline, creating a duplicate before the clip being duplicated rather than after it.

Powerclaw Grab

“Powerclaw Grab” sounds exciting! and it describes this tip. While holding CMD+Opt+Ctrl on a Mac or Ctrl+Alt+Start on a PC click on the clip you want to duplicate with the Grab tool and a duplicate will be created before the original. Keep clicking on the original clip to create additional duplicates down the timeline.

Create Symmetrical Sounds

A use I’ve found for this is as a quick way to create symmetrical whoosh type sounds with the peak at the right point. Spot a cymbal hit to the right location, Duplicate it backwards, reverse the duplicate - Done! So much quicker than creating a sync point.
