See this content in the original post

In this in-depth free video tutorial, you will learn how to achieve quick and easy track separation in a mix using Softube's Tonelux Tilt EQ Plug-in. Deputy Editor Dan Cooper demonstrates the power of Tonelux Tilt within a full Irish Folk Pro Tools Session on the following instruments:

  • Kick drum

  • Bass guitar

  • Acoustic Guitar

  • Acoustic Upright Piano

  • Mandolin

  • Banjo

  • Uilleann pipes

  • Tin whistle

  • Fiddle

  • Lead vocal

  • Backing vocals

Tonelux Tilt is a great plug-in to reach for when track struggle to sit well together in a mix.

If you have battled a busy session in the past then there is a good chance you worked very hard to focus particular tracks in a mix to no avail. Afterall, track separation is fairly difficult to achieve, especially in high track count sessions.

What Is Tonelux Tilt?

Tonelux Tilt is sort of an emulation. The Tilt section was modelled from a physical unit but In essence, this is just a plug-in all of its own. It features a set of filters that can be set to either 6db per octave, for gentle transparent filtering or 12db per octave for more aggressive sounding cuts

The Tilt section is the special source. When this dial is set to 0, nothing happens… turn to the right and the tonality of a track will get brighter while the low end gets attenuated equally. Picture a children’s see-saw, one child sitting on the right called "High" and the other child called "Low" and you’ll hopefully get a good idea how the Tilt section in this plug-in works

Turn the dial to the left and the tonality of a track will get darker… sounding more earthy. The lower end comes forward while the highs getting attenuated.

Tilts EQs are a great way to focus tracks in the early stages of a mix. Put Tonelux Tilt on insert one and get going with it, but that's not a hard and fast rule, this can work within any part of a plug-in chain.

Try Tonelux Tilt Yourself

Softube's Tonelux Tilt is available as an AAX Native & AAX DSP plug-in (HDX users rejoice) and is also part of the UAD2 ecosystem. For more information do check out the Softube website. This is an extremely inexpensive plug-in that I reach for all time as it sounds great. Tonelux Tilt really helps me to get a mix working quickly right out the gate.
