Workflow speed is at the essence of great production but it can be frustrating when your DAW works against you. This free video tutorial tackles five of the worst workflow killing preferences and features in Pro Tools. After all, any time you save can be used to make money elsewhere!

Backup Early & Often

It's a simple matter to check your preferences at the start of a session to steer away from the default and enable your system to recall your most recent work. Back up early and often to recover quickly when the rainbow pinwheel strikes.

Do Not Go To Infinity Or Beyond

Having your sends default to "INF" can be a mix workflow killer when you're trying to instance time-based processors. By unchecking this box you'll instantly hear your effects and be able to tuck them in at the return instead of fader and preference hunting to see why they're not working.

Nurture Your Inner Keypad Commands

When your keypad is set to "Transport" you unlock ten of the most useful, one-button shortcuts that Pro Tools offers. Upgrade your keyboard to ninja-mode and increase your workflow ten-fold.

Mind The Scroll

When you're cleaning up edits on the fly during playback it can be a frustrating time killer when your screen jumps to the next page. Turn off scrolling and stay in control of your work surface at all times.

Lock Those Tools!

The cryptic-sounding "Edit/Mode Tool Keyboard Lock" option can speed your workflow by not allowing your edit tools to stray into dangerous territory. Lock your tools to save recovery time from a runaway edit.
