Sound Bites are short articles aimed at giving you tips, tricks and news fast. They are no less useful but you should be able to read them in less than 1 minute.

What AJA Say About The KONA 1

The KONA 1 has been designed for broadcast, post and ProAV, as well as OEM developers as a robust, cost-efficient single-channel 3G-SDI 2K/HD 60p I/O card with serial control and reference/LTC.

KONA 1 enables simultaneous monitoring during capture (pass-through) and includes full-size SDI ports supporting 3G-SDI formats, embedded 16-channel SDI audio in/out, HD/SD Genlock with video reference/ LTC input and RS-422 and comes with a 3-year warranty, with a price point in the US of $595.

What We Think About The KONA 1

If you are looking for an SDI video card to handle video playback in your Pro Tools sessions this looks like a cost-effective solution, and certainly much cheaper than most of the other AJA cards

Pro Tools Compatible

Avid explain in their compatibility documentation that Blackmagic Design and AJA products are supported but that compatibility approval for individual products is down to these two brands.

The new KONA 1 is approved for use with Pro Tools on both the Mac and Windows platform. You can check what other AJA products are approved for use with Pro Tools on the AJA compatibility card.
