Avid Tells Pro Tools Users Not To Upgrade To macOS Mojave Support Yet As There Are Issues

Today Avid has taken an unusual step by emailing Pro Tools Users with an email titled ALERT: Pro Tools and macOS 10.14 Mojave. Here is the full text of the email…

ALERT: for Pro Tools users on macOS

Pro Tools 2018 is not yet fully compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave, which Apple released this past Monday, September 24. We are working to qualify this new OS. We advise users to wait until fully compatible versions of Pro Tools products (Pro Tools, Pro Tools | First, Pro Tools | Ultimate, and Pro Tools for Education) are released before updating to macOS Mojave.

We understand that with the release of Mojave that you may have some questions on how Pro Tools is operating in terms of compatibility. Please refer to Pro Tools System Requirements for the latest updates on Mojave compatibility.

We understand there are some specific issues between macOS Mojave and Pro Tools 2018 and that the team at Avid are hard at work resolving them.

On their macOS Compatibility page they have said this…

Initial testing of Pro Tools with macOS 10.14 has shown serious problems with CPU performance at lower buffer sizes. Avid is working to find a resolution for this problem. It is recommended that users refrain from updating to 10.14 until further notice. If you have to use 10.14 then make sure to avoid lower buffer sizes (64 samples or lower at 48kHz, 128 samples or lower at 96kHz, 256 samples at 192kHz)

On their macOS Mojave page, Avid has said this about Sibelius…

We have found the music and text in Sibelius and Sibelius Ultimate are slightly thicker than normal on non-Retina displays only. This is due to a change by Apple in macOS Mojave (10.14) to remove support for sub-pixel anti-aliasing on non-Retina displays.

and this about Eucon…

The EuControl application will crash on launch with macOS Mojave. While this software combination is unsupported, there is a simple workaround: Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > Privacy > Accessibility and enable EuControl.app under “Allow the apps below to control your computer”

Both of these give an indication of the kind of issues that Avid are dealing with. Rest assured as soon as we have more information we will bring it to you. But until then it is a very clear message from Avid saying do not upgrade to macOS Mojave if you have any Avid product like Pro Tools Sibelius or Media Composer.
