Friday Free Plug-in - Black Rooster Canary Transient Processor

In this week's Friday Free Plug-in, we are featuring Canary, a drum processing plug-in which promises to make your drums sing, presumably like a canary…

Resonator Delay And Transient Enhancement

This plug-in enhances transients much like other transient enhancement plug-ins you might have used, the sustain processor sound like it is a delay line which you tune to the pitch of the sustain of the drum, using one of the filter types helps reduce the worst of the “sproinnggg” sounds short delays with high feedback can produce. The tune parameter isn’t continuous so it can be difficult to tune exactly to the pitch of the drum but with a little care, the effect can be helpful. set up without care it doesn’t work at all so be warned that you do need to set it up for it to sound acceptable. It’s an interesting way to synthesise sustain where little is present.

How Do I Get This Plug-in?

Go to the Black Rooster website and download the installer. You’ll have to sign up for a free account and get a serial for the plug-in but it is free. By default the plugin installer installs all the Black Rooster plug-ins. Before launching Pro Tools you can manually delete the other plug-ins if you don't wish to have them installed for demo purposes.

Canary is available for Mac and PC in AAX, VST and AU formats, no iLok is required.
