Pro Tools Cursor Value Display - Free Tip

See this content in the original post

How can you know the current parameter value at which your cursor is hovering? You can but, although its in plain sight, most of us don’t pay attention to it. Here’s how it works:

With audio tracks the cursor value shows the current sample level in terms of the quantisation appropriate for the current bit depth. Note that the value is bipolar, going from positive, through zero to negative as you move downwards.

Automation Playlists show the current parameter value, for example volume shows from +12dB to -Infinity. When creating breakpoints you get a momentary value display in the track itself but this display at the top of the UI could be useful when identifying values without creating new breakpoints.

MIDI tracks don’t show anything at all in Clips view but display note name in notes view and MIDI CC data displays its parameter value from 127 to zero. There is an equivalent filed in the MIDI editor which shows note name CC value.
