In this free video tutorial find out how simple it is to use Ableton Link to sync an iOS app with Pro Tools 2020.9.
In the recently released Pro Tools 2020.9 the stand out feature for us was the addition of Ableton Link. Back in 2016 when Ableton Link was added to desktop Apps for the first time we asked whether it was something we would welcome in Pro Tools. With this latest release, we no longer have to imagine Pro Tools with this useful additional functionality.
What Is Ableton Link?
Link is a technology that keeps devices in time over a local network, so you can forget the hassle of setting up and focus on playing music.
This simple technology which can the thought of as a kind of MIDI beat clock over a network, it does a couple of useful extra things but that is its core function, is available on desktop apps including Ableton Live, Bitwig, Reason, Maschine, Serato and Max. Some hardware support from the newer Akai MPCs and the amazing new Elk OS.
However, it’s for iOS and Android Apps that Ableton Link is best known and because it uses your LAN to distribute its beat clock it can operate over WiFi, which is of course ideal for iOS-based jamming.
