Edit Loops Fast In Pro Tools - Expert Tutorial

In this extended premium video tutorial, Julian Rodgers uses editing a drum loop to highlight several techniques and shortcuts which can really help editing in Pro Tools, furthermore these can be used for more than loops.

There is a lot in here but the basis of this tutorial is in these 5 techniques:

  • Use of the Object Grabber

  • Controlling Nudge and Nudge value from the keyboard

  • Unlink Timeline and Edit selection

  • Batch Fades

  • Clip Groups

  • Create Individual Files Vs Create Continuous File in AudioSuite

In this tutorial he shows ways you can quickly organise clips using colour, helped by judicious use of the often overlooked Object Grabber. He shows how you can quickly prepare a collection of clips for editing using Batch Fades and a trick using AudioSuite processing to quickly “bake in” the results for less clutter later.

He illustrates the difference between the AudioSuite processing modes using Thump, the excellent free plugin from Metric Halo. Using Clip Groups to manage layers of hits and nudging multiple hits up and down the timeline, fine-tuning the feel while auditioning the loop in context by unlinking the timeline and edit selections, all while controlling the nudge and nudge value from the keyboard there is a lot in this tutorial.

As well as these old stalwarts of the Pro Tools editing toolkit there is use of new commands like Duplicate and Extend Selection and Space Clips.
