Fades used to be oddly complicated in Pro Tools, Rendered fades living in a dedicated fades folder, which occasionally got lost. Things have been much better for some time now we have real-time fades and most importantly the Smart Tool’s ability to create, trim and edit fades on the fly has meant that the Smart Tool is as far as many go when it comes to fades.
