When you’re recording live drums, the different elements of the kit get picked up by all the microphones to some extent. Careful mic placement can minimise this but some people still prefer to control spill using gating. Gates can be frustrating as they frequently misfire in response to loud bleed or soft hits. Strip Silence offers a semi-automated way to edit out the bleed but this can lead to heavy-handed processing, which can introduce audible side effects that end up being more distracting than the bleed.
