There is some debate about how easy it is to replace the RAM in the new Mac Mini 2018. iFixIt say it is easy, ZDNet say it’s not easy. Watch the video or read the step-by-step iFixIt guide and decide for yourself.

In this video Brandon shows how to take apart the new late (November) 2018 Mac Mini, and looking at what we can upgrade. He says that only the RAM is user upgradable/serviceable in this generation Mac Mini. At 6’19” he points to the SSD and says that it is soldered onto the motherboard.

This video from Snazzy Labs, gos much further and shows you how to remove the PSu, the speaker and shows what is under the covers with the soldered in SSD and T2 chips and so confirms that really the only user changeable parts are the RAM Sticks.

You Will Void Your Warranty if You Do This

Apple are on record as stating that they do not consider the RAM user upgradeable and so if you do it you will void your warranty. We understand that many people have contacted Apple support staff who have confirmed the warranty void part.

You can however take your machine to an Apple store or authorised re-seller and they can upgrade the RAM for you in the future without voiding warranty. Check out this Apple Support Document.
