Got An Nvidia Graphics Card? Considering Upgrading To macOS Mojave? New Drivers Maybe On The Horizon

Back in November 2018 we posted an article Got An Nvidia Graphics Card? Considering Upgrading To macOS Mojave? You Need To Read This First. In this article we share some news about the possible appearance of Mojave compatible drivers for Nvidia graphics cards released after the end of 2013.

Its been over 3 months now since Apple released 10.14, and new macOS Mojave compatible Web drivers are still not available for Nvidia graphics cards that were released after the end of 2013. With previous macOS releases they were usually released within 24 hours. This is especially relevant here for some Mac Pro cheese-grater owners who wants to upgrade to macOS Mojave.

Since we wrote the article Got An Nvidia Graphics Card? Considering Upgrading To macOS Mojave? You Need To Read This First there have been some developments which we want to bring to you.

The petition to ask Apple to publicly commit to work with Nvidia on drivers for Mac OS 10.14 on Change.org has reached nearly 7000 signatures (It was at 6974 at the time of writing).

“The community of people who have chosen to use Nvidia products with their Apple hardware demands that Apple permit Nvidia to make web drivers that work with all Mac OS versions going forward.”

On a thread on the Nvidia Developers forum, on page 57, a user has posted a screenshot of what appears to be a response from an Nvidia customer support agent dated 2nd January 2019, appearing to confirm that Nvidia and Apple are finally working together on macOS Mojave compatible drivers for the latest Nvidia graphics cards.

“Nvidia and Apple are now jointly working for drivers for our graphics cards on their systems. You should have the drivers very shortly.”

This could be the light at the end of a long and uncharacteristic tunnel for Nvidia and Apple. How long ‘shortly’ is unclear, but for those of you with an Nvidia graphics card released after the end of 2013 especially if you have a Mac Pro cheese-grater and are looking to upgrade to macOS Mojave, but can’t, because your Nvidia graphics card doesn’t have Mojave compatible drivers, this is a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

We will bring you more news when we have it.
