Sontronics Announce New DrumPacks Featuring DM-1B, DM-1S, DM-10T & STC-1 Microphones - Make Your Drums Sound As Good As They Can

Our friends at British microphone company Sontronics have put some of their stunning drum mics together in two packages called the DrumPack and DrumPack Plus. Both packages feature the stunning DM-1B kick drum mics along with SM-1S for snare drum and DM-1T for toms. If you want to take your drum sound to the next level these could be the solutions for you.

DrumPack & DrumPack Plus

These new five and seven-piece condenser microphone sets will give you amazing results for your entire drum kit and you can save up to 30% from buying the mics individually.

The five-piece DrumPack features a DM-1B for kick drum, a DM-1S for snare and three DM-1T mics for tom tom and comes with four mic clips for the snare and tom mics and is all housed in a rugged road-ready ABS flight case.

The seven-piece DrumPack Plus adds a pair of STC-10 pencil condensers to use as overhead mics or for solo percussion miking.

Mark Rankin, Producer for Florence & The Machine, Adele, Plan B, Queens of the Stone Age told us...

“We were A/B testing the Sontronics drum mics set up against some thousand-pound mics and we had to keep checking the tracks because the Sontronics mics sounded as good if not better than the expensive ones. We were totally blown away!”

The Sontronics DM-series of microphones were designed and developed over a three year period by founder Trevor Coley with input from a number of top UK producers and drummers. Each of the microphone in the range has been specifically tailored to capture the best sound from each of the drums in what you might call an “average” drum kit. The mics have also received rave reviews, awards and have appeared on the touring kits and studio set-ups of major drummers including Dave Grohl, Aerosmith's Joey Kramer, Muse's Dom Howard and Blur's Dave Rowntree and check out the review from Production Expert’s in-house drummer James Ivey of the DM-1B, DM-1T and DM-1S...

Three Mics In The Range

The DM-1B is a large-diaphragm, end-fire cardioid condenser microphone. This is a superb mic for capturing the entire dynamic range of your kick drum. It’s good on the inside of your drums, but for me it’s home as as the outside kick mic, replacing the classic Neumann U47 FET which so many producers and recording engineers (me included) love. Thanks to its high sensitivity, extremely low self-noise, -15dB attenuation pad and ability to handle up to 155dB SPL, the DM-1B delivers outstanding results on kick drum but also sounds fantastic on bass guitar cabinets, Trombone, Tuba and lower winds like tenor and baritone sax.

Andy Gray, Producer/Composer for Gary Numan, Radiohead, Enter Shikari, TT3D, CSI Miami told us…

"The DM-1B sounds better than my vintage Neumann U47fet, which is saying something, and the DM-1S is one of the best close mics I have ever used. Amazing!"

The DM-1S for snare and DM-1T for toms are small-diaphragm cardioid condenser mics each with a -10dB pad and SPL handling of up to 135dB. They have been designed with subtle variations in their response to suit the exact sound of the snare and toms, catching every nuance of your sound from a solid crack to the rattle and sizzle of the snare to the attack and resonance of your tom. I have been using these mics both live and in the studio for years. Combine these with the DM-1B and a well tuned kit and you will get exceptional results.

Capturing Overheads

The DrumPack Plus adds a pair of STC-10 cardioid condenser microphones to give you complete drum kit coverage. These STC-10 boast two-stage pad and filter controls and has an extremely precise response with what I would call a Sontronics' signature sound. Meaning the top end is smooth and gently rolls off to keep your cymbals sounding clean but not harsh. They work amazingly well in pairs over the drum kit, but also sound stunning whether used individually for solo percussion, woodwind or stringed instruments, but also together for stereo-miking acoustic guitar, piano and ensemble.

On The Case

The DrumPack and DrumPack Plus are supplied in a rugged ABS flightcase, making them ideal for life on the road or from moving from studio to stage and back again.
