macOS Big Sur - Warning From Developers Of Delays To Test Software - Do Not Update

We’ve been getting feedback from several developers who are ‘perplexed’ to say the least as they try and ensure their DAWs and plugins and other audio products are compatible with the forthcoming macOS Big Sur. One developer wrote to us “I’m feeling frustrated.”

In some cases, developers are holding off any work until the final shippable version has landed.

For example, they are finding their applications are working in one version of the beta, only to break in the next and then work again in the one after that - it is for them a game of ‘Whack-a-mole.’

In an email to customers Maintain SE makers of Cocktail write this;

“We would like to inform you that Cocktail (Big Sur Edition) will be delayed and will not be released before, or on the same day, the final version of macOS Big Sur will be available for download. We are waiting for the Golden Master version of macOS Big Sur to be released before we will start to develop Cocktail (Big Sur Edition). This is simply because Apple is making so many changes to this operating system in every beta. To start to develop Cocktail (Big Sur Edition) now would be pointless since we would need to have to do some work all over again to ensure that Cocktail is working properly. We are very thankful for your support, understanding and patience. We will notify you when Cocktail (Big Sur Edition) will be available for download.”

We will shortly be realising a comprehensive list of Vendor advice for all apps, plugins, drivers and hardware affected by macOS Big Sur.

Don’t Do It

Until then we advise you NOT to update to Big Sur until you know that all software and hardware will work without disruption to your work and our searchable database of audio software and plugins will help you decide when that moment has arrived.
