Winners Announced - Soundtheory Gullfoss Competition

Last month we ran a competition to win one of three copies of Soundtheory’s remarkable Gullfoss intelligent equaliser. If you haven’t yet checked out what Gullfoss can do and why there isn’t any other plug-in which does quite what it does then check out the video below.

The lucky winners are: Markus Plietsch, Jean-Pascal Beaudoin and Stein Tore Sønsteli. Congratulations!

Markus Plietsch

I'm a full time live sound, recording and mixing engineer for 20+ years. My work at Authentic Audio is based around producing independent bands and artists in a wide range of genres from singer/songwriter-pop up to rock, metal and grindcore.

The current lockdown has reduced my workload a bit, giving me plenty of time to care for my own 22nd-century trip-hop project Secret Source, that involves a lot of sound design. Gullfoss will be a welcome tool on busy buses, filling a gap between other 'intelligent' plugins like Intensity, Elevate or DSM3 with its different approach.

Jean-Pascal Beaudoin

I’m lead sound supervisor and co-founder of Headspace Studio with facilities in Montreal and L.A. where we specialize in immersive sound for XR, from 360 Video to Mixed Reality projects.
I’ve been impressed with what Gullfoss can do for dialogue and sound effects and find it quite exciting to see a new tool that is based on audio perception rather than the usual paradigm of EQ and compression. We’re currently working on an immersive series filmed by astronauts aboard the International Space Station and the quality of the source audio material that we get can sometimes be very challenging so I can’t think of a better context to start using Gullfoss.

Stein Tore Sønsteli

I'm a producer/engineer/musician based in Lillehammer, Norway. My main focus is mixing, but I also produce bands and artists now and then. My city, Lillehammer, is home base for a couple of Norway's most used film score composers, and as a result, I sometimes get hired to do film score music editing and mixing which is incredible fun.

When I'm not working in my own mix room at home, or out doing gigs as a keyboard player, I can be found in my office at Norway Inland University, Faculty of Audiovisual Media and Creative Technologies where I work as "the audio guy". That means taking care of and developing, our studio technology, audio editing rooms and Dante network. And occasionally, I get to yell at students for bringing coffee mugs and food into our editing rooms.

I'm really happy to win a copy of Gullfoss by Soundtheory. When I tried the demo, I was really impressed with how it enabled me to make my mixes clearer and more defined, without compromising the integrity of the mix. The theory behind the plugin is also really exciting. I can't wait to explore this plugin further, and I'm sure it will end up on a lot my mixes.
