Apple's 32nd annual Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC21, starts tomorrow, June 7th, and it’s expected to either show or announce new powerful System on a Chip based Macs using the next generation of Apple Silicon chips. Depending on who is correct it’s either going to be the M1X or M2, either way, if the first generation of M1 chip Apple Macs are anything to go on, these things are going to be powerful machines, we expect many of them to find their way into recording studios around the world.
Macrumors is reporting the following;
“Analysts from Wedbush and Morgan Stanley have also said that new Apple Silicon Macs could debut at WWDC, but a recent DigiTimes report said that redesigned MacBook Pro models won't be shipping to customers until late 2021, so it's unclear what's going to happen.”
New MacBook Pro
The new MacBook Pro is predicted to be first out of the gate, features so far include;
The MagSafe port is back.
Touch Bar replaced with traditional function row of keys
HDMI port
SD Card
3 Thunderbolt/USB-C ports
New thermal cooling system
In addition, there are predictions of the newer higher powered Apple Silicon chips.
Macrumors also claim;
“Apple is working on 10-core Apple silicon chips for the MacBook Pro models, with the chips expected to include eight high-performance cores and two energy-efficient cores, along with 16 or 32-core GPU options and support for up to 64GB RAM.”
If the planets align and a machine appears with both the new features and improved chips then we know many readers will be ordering this machine for their recording studio setup.
Laptops are fast becoming a centrepiece for many pro studios, often used in clamshell mode, hooked up to a hub, such as the Caldigit TS3 and using Bluetooth for the keyboard and mouse. Modern, powerful laptops offer both power and portability, so owners can continue to work on tracks when on the move.
