Auto-Tune SoundSoap For Post Production? Tested

Antares recently released a new version of the audio restoration tool Auto-Tune SoundSoap. In this video, Paul Maunder puts it to the test with dialogue recorded on location in a variety of noisy environments…

Antares are best known for their Auto-Tune pitch correction software. First released way back in 1997, Auto-Tune was one of the very first pieces of software which made the correction of off-key vocals possible. Today, Auto-Tune is available in various forms, all of which are included in Antares Auto-Tune Unlimited bundle. This suite of 9 plug-ins includes SoundSoap, an audio restoration and noise reduction plug-in.

The focus with SoundSoap is ease of use. It has facilities for high frequency de-clicking, de-clipping, hum removal, de-essing, spectral noise reduction, filtering, frequency enhancement and dynamic expansion.

Whilst Auto-Tune SoundSoap is most likely to find favour with music producers who need to clean up noisy vocal takes, (check out Eli Krantzberg’s article Get Natural Sounding Vocals With Antares Auto-Tune Unlimited), I was interested to give it a try with some dialogue recorded on location in a variety of noisy environments.

I tried SoundSoap in Pro Tools with various pieces of audio, each exhibiting a noise problem which Auto-Tune SoundSoap should be able to improve. Check out the video below to see how I got on.

You can try Auto-Tune SoundSoap yourself by signing up to Auto-Tune Unlimited’s free 14 day trial. Head to the Auto-Tune website to find out more.
