Avid Channel Strip - This Pro Tools Plugin Shouldn't Be Ignored

Pro Tools Intro has brought a whole new audience to Pro Tools. But if you look at the plugins which come with Pro Tools you’ll find that the most useful plugin is also the most complicated - Avid’s Channel Strip.

What Is Avid Channel Strip?

Avid Channel Strip was first introduced way back when Pro Tools 10 was released but it’s still a great plugin. It features a 4 band EQ, a separate filter section which covers high and low pass as well as band pass and notch filters and a dynamics section which covers compression, limiting expansion and gating. Add to this a comprehensive volume section which allows effective gain staging and you can see why the user interface is a busy place and why this isn’t the friendliest of places for a new user of Pro Tools Intro to find themselves.

In this free video, brought to you with the support of Avid, Julian highlights some ways to streamline the use of channel strip to make working in it simpler and faster. Whether you’re a novice who is new to Pro Tools or an experienced user who has just overlooked Channel Strip there is something here for everyone.

What Is In The Video?

Customise the UI to show only the sections you’re using, understand the unusual layout of the transfer curve in the dynamics section and how that curve can be used to set up the compressor without click-dragging the knobs and learn some keyboard shortcuts to make the EQ section quicker and more accurate in use.
